Part 1: Mommy & Me Tea Party

27th November 2012

Hello my Sweets!

I am happy to finally share with you a little outdoor tea party I styled for my daughter to enjoy. Since my little one just turned 2, I thought it would be a great opportunity to set up a tea table and other sweet stations under the trees while enjoying some quality mommy and me time over a nice cup of tea!

I approached a few of my favorite talented dessert ladies to help me come up with mini confections for this tea party. I used a variety of cake stands, teacups, teapots, dessert plates, milk glass vases and compotes, from our Minted and Vintage collection of rentals to display the yummy desserts.

Everything was kept child sized to make it easy for my 2 year old to enjoy. From the child sized teacups and white chiavari chairs, to the mini cakes and cupcakes, and cake pops, she had a blast having everything at her reach and just her size!

We served pink tea with colored sugar hearts and old-fashioned rock candy swizzle sticks. The tea table, vintage tea cart, and wooden dollhouse, displayed a variety of buttercream iced mini cakes, individual rose cakes, mini pink cheesecakes, raspberry topped mini cupcakes, coconut and chocolate brigadeiros, cake pops, white chocolate dipped french macarons, heart shaped petit fours, meringues, and marshmallows.

This styled tea party took place in a park setting surrounded by beautiful trees. After scouting so many places in Orange County, I finally decided to do this shoot at El Dorado Park in Long Beach. It’s a super mega park filled with gorgeous mature tress and lush grass. I have always seen it while driving down the 605 freeway but never took the time to stop by, I’m happy I finally did. For those of you locals (and even out of towners), I would suggest you check it out!

This mommy and me tea party under the trees was such a sweet memory! I think it’s a great alternative for subsequent birthdays after having a big 1st birthday celebration as it allowed me to spend quality time with my girl (and her favorite dolls) and give her all of my undivided attention.

It was such a pleasure working with an awesome team of talented ladies. I am so grateful to you all: Brianna, Dana, Sabrina, Katie, Denise, Melanie, Shanda, and Kim for providing your talents, sweets, pieces, and products for this shoot. Great teamwork ladies! Check out the feature of this styled shoot on Karas Party Ideas. Yay!

I hope you enjoy the gorgeous images of from Sienna Rose Photography! Don’t miss the little styling details following the pictures. Scroll all the way down for vendor credits. I will be posting the second part of this shoot shortly. Enjoy!

Loved these light pink polka dot favor box from the The Tomkat Studio shop. The scalloped detail on the flap made them fit this theme perfectly! I embellished the boxes with lace trim and a coral pink satin ribbon. I found the most adorable hang tags by Martha Stewart Crafts at Michaels, they had all the pretty tea party elements: roses, scalloped edging, and doily accents.

I embellished the backs of these child sized white chiavari chairs I rented from Baker Party Rentals by cutting 1″ strips of assorted fabric and lace with pinking scissors (to give it a zig zag edge and to prevent the fabric from fraying). It looks just as pretty letting them hang down from the back of the chair but I made a paper medallion to hold them in the center.

For the heart shaped petit fours (bottom tier) I used a pound cake bites recipe, from Amy Atlas’ Sweet Designs book, but instead of doing them cube shaped I used a small heart shaped cookie cutter, and decorated with sugar pearls and hearts, I just loved how they came out and they were super simple to make!

I made a mini version of my vintage crochet doily bunting for this cute wooden dollhouse by cutting 4″ crochet doilies in half and hot gluing them to light pink pom trim.

Of course I just had to bring my little ones vintage strawberry shortcake rag dolls to join the tea party!

For the little beverage station, I served strawberry lemonade in a strawberry shaped dispenser. I had my kids drink up Martinelli apple juices and recycled the adorable apple shaped glasses as my jars. After I washed them, I noticed they still had some black printing on them but it came right of with acetone based nail polish remover! I used cute ballerina pink striped paper straws from The Tomkat Studio shop and served them on our vintage pink cookie tray. I used a white vintage side table from This & That Vintage Rentals to serve everything on and it was the perfect height!
