Pt. 1 Vintage Sleeping Beauty Inspired Birthday Party by Minted and Vintage

11th March 2014

Another year has flown by and my little darling baby girl turned 3! Like many little girls this age, she was well into her little princess stage. Fancy dresses, twirling around, sparkly shoes, crowns and tiaras, this was my Abby all day, everyday. She literally fell asleep in a princess dress (I would then change her into something more comfy) and would wake up asking where her princess dress was immediately demanding to put it back on!

I mentioned the idea of having a big celebration for her 3rd birthday (since last year it was an intimate tea party at the park) so I asked her which type of party she would like and she yelled “Seeping Buty!”. Yes! my girl knows how to pick a good princess. I loved it. Princess Aurora was an old school Disney princess, i.e. vintage, so you know I’m all for that!

So 4 months before her royal bash this crazy mommy started brainstorming up a details of this dreamy celebration. Obviously since there were no Sleeping Beauty themed party supplies to help a mama out (although I recently discovered princess Aurora (and every princess for that matter) party supplies at the candy/piñata stores at the Mercado Hidalgo in Tijuana!), I knew I had to create everything myself.

Light pink, bubblegum pink, raspberry pink, aqua blue, baby blue, and touches gold was the color scheme. This pretty color palette represented Princess Auroras pink and blue dresses and her unique crown! I gathered up a few images from Pinterest that served as inspiration pieces for the party (for individual photo credits of this board check out my Pinterest board!)

I like to start off planning and brainstorming my parties with a physical piece of inspiration, so I found vintage Sleeping Beauty porcelain dolls and vintage Sleeping Beauty books on Ebay that started it all! These vintage pieces were the only actual Sleeping Beauty decor items through out the whole party. The rest were just elements and colors that I incorporated to give the feel of Sleeping Beauty. I like parties like these best, you don’t always have to have the actual images of the princess plastered all over and it challenges you to get creative making it all your own!

I knew I wanted lots of gold so I found myself spray painting and glittering tons of stuff like the gold glittered flower bud vases, taper candles (yes, I even glittered candles!), and stacked books for the centerpieces. I also DIY’d a lot of décor elements like the royal table runners, tissue paper fringe banners, gold mylar fringe piñata, sequin crown a la Bramble Workshop (using this tutorial), and individual gold princess lace crowns.

After months of planning and crafting, I knew I needed help executing my dream princess party the day of. I noticed that every time I threw a big party  in the past, I was always waking up at the crack of dawn to set up but still running late, stressed out, overwhelmed, and at the end of the day I end up kicking myself in the butt because I realized I didn’t spend enough time with my girl, which makes it so not worth it! So this time around, I did myself a favor and contacted my dear friends Pam and Viv of Love Anne Joy Design + Events. These girls are truly the best! They took the stress off my shoulders, executed my design effortlessly, and just made the experience a whole lot better. They even made the beautiful floral arrangements! I love them.

This party has too many pretty details to bunch them all up into one post so I’m breaking them up into parts on the blog. Don’t forget to check out the rest of them! Pt. 2 Dessert Table, Pt. 3 Royal Little Princess Table, Pt. 4 Princess Lounge, Pt.5 Chocolate Fountain Table.

Every element of this party was so magical! The expression on my little princess’ face when she walked into the room was…priceless. Makes my heart real happy when I get to see her feel like the princess she is on her very special day.

My friend Brianna of Brianna Muniz Photography captured the dreaminess of this party perfectly, you can also check out the feature on 100 Layer Cakelet! Enjoy!
